Returning from online school, The Communicator staff and I made it a mission to tell the stories of as many students as we could. Through All of CHS, short interviews and quotes from 100+ students and growing (the stories are still in the process of being uploaded to our site), we told the stories of as many as we could, ensuring that every Community High Schooler feels they are "newsworthy".
This year-long projects exemplifies my, and The Communicator's, commitment to reporting on a range of voices and stories. Journalists are expected to not interview the people they know and cover the stories they are involved in but make an effort to speak to someone out of their circle and enter new environments. Community High School is a celebration of different student's personalities and perspectives. Our mascot, the rainbow "anti-zebra", represents individuality. The Communicator reflects our school's commitment to a diverse array of voices and perspectives.

Ethics in Journalism
I am committed to appropriate, ethical journalism that serves to help and not hurt my community. I spend all the extra hours I can combing through sensitive transcripts to ensure I stand by every word and talking with interviewees who trust me to share their deeply personal stories. I help students feel ready covering crucial stories by walking them through interviewee confidentiality, accurate reporting, and addressing complaints of inaccuracies.
As an economics student, I understand how crucial not oversimplifying a story is. Through my articles, I aim to communicate complex topics and events in a complete, yet simple way through interviews that provide a people-centered angle that readers can empathize with and understand. I continue to examine, and not ignore, how my values and own background shapes my reporting and take it into account while writing. I do not believe there is ever a truly unbiased reporter, but by working hard to contact every side of the story and asking for help, I can write unbiased stories.
